Aspire’s new program is designed to meet the growing needs of area schools to address and care for trauma-affected students. Research now shows trauma undermines children’s ability to learn, form relationships and function day to day in the classroom. Trauma may also be linked to ADHD. Without proper treatment, children who experience trauma have a higher risk of long-term mental health disorders, substance abuse and somatic health issues. Aspire’s program will help ensure that school personnel receive the training  and support they need to recognize trauma in their students, and to confidently address the needs of children who present trauma signs and symptoms.
